An oil deposit has been discovered near Abadan in Iran's Khuzestan Province, Oil Minister Bijan Zangeneh told reporters, Trend reports referring to Fars News Agency.
Zangeneh noted that drilling was carried out on the island of Minu off Abadan. The oil was discovered at a depth of 3,770 meters.
The minister also noted that oil is found in that county for the first time.
"We have high hopes for the oil found there," the minister said.
"Drilling will continue to more fully determine oil reserves," he said.
