Some 3,000 Peugeot 301 cars will be produced in Iran till the end of this Iranian year (started on March 21, 2019), Maziar Beyglu, secretary of the Iran Vehicle Manufacturers Association, said.
The backbone frames are being prepared, Beyglu added, Trend reports referring to IRNA.
Beyglu added that the electronic spare parts are the main problem faced by manufacturers.
"The biggest problem of the spare parts producers is that the Central Bank of Iran has not allocated the promised funds worth $844 million. As a result, the problems with the production of Peugeot 301 cars occurred," he added.
If there are still problems, the production of spare parts and cars will be reduced and more than 500,000 people will lose their jobs, he said.
The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) between Iran and the 5+1 group (US, Russia, China, UK, France, Germany) was in place since January 2016. The US announced about its withdrawal from a nuclear deal on May 8, 2018.
Iran Khodro automobile manufacturing plant and France’s Peugeot Car Manufacturing Company decided to jointly produce Peugeot 301 cars in connection with the implementation of this plan.
However, after the US imposed sanctions on Iran in November 2018, the French company announced about its withdrawal from the automobile industry in Iran.
