BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 1. Three million cubic meters of gas will be added to the daily production of the South Pars gas field (Northern Dome in Qatar), a joint gas field between Iran and Qatar, by April 20, CEO of the Iranian Petropars Group Hamidreza Saghafi told reporters, Trend reports.
He announced plans to complete the operational work on the 8th well on the B platform of the 11th phase of the South Pars gas field soon.
Saghafi added that this is considered an important achievement in the development of the 11th phase of the South Pars gas field and increasing gas production.
The official noted that the cleaning operation is being carried out in the well, where more than 4,200 meters of drilling work have been carried out.
South Pars gas field (North Dome in Qatar) is a joint gas field of Iran and Qatar. It is reported that the gas reserves in this field are 51 trillion cubic meters, of which 36 trillion cubic meters can be produced. Iran's share in this field is 14 trillion cubic meters of gas and 18 billion barrels of gas condensate.
Iran has 24 phases in the South Pars gas field. It is reported that Iran is currently producing 700 million cubic meters of gas from these phases daily. It is estimated that Iran has spent an astounding $90 billion on the field. It is noted that about 33 percent of the gas that can be produced from the gas field belongs to Iran. On the Iranian side, the phase fields have been developed by Iran, while on the Qatari side, they have been exploited mainly by foreign companies.
The French company Total and the Chinese company CNPCI stopped working on phase 11 of the South Pars gas field following US sanctions against Iran. Therefore, the activities in this phase are fully entrusted to the Iranian Petropars company.
Two platforms (A and B) are expected to be operated in Phase 11 of the South Pars gas field. As long as both platforms are fully operational, two billion cubic feet (about 56.6 million cubic meters) of rich gas will be produced daily. Iran started daily production of 10–12 million cubic feet of rich gas from Phase 11 of the South Pars gas field on August 11, 2023. A total of 6.37 billion cubic meters of rich gas were produced from the 11th phase of the field by the end of January 2025.
