BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 13. Iran's crude steel production grew by 4.6 percent in the first month of the current Iranian year (from March 21 through April 20, 2025) compared to the same month of last year (from March 20 through April 19, 2024).
The data obtained by Trend from the Iranian Steel Producers Association shows that the crude steel production totaled 3.31 million tons in the reporting month, a growth from 3.16 million tons in the first month of last year.
In the reporting month, Iran's steel products output amounted to 1.81 million tons, which is 2.1 percent less compared to the same month last year (1.85 million tons).
In the first month of this year, Iran produced 4.07 million tons of sponge iron, marking an increase of seven percent compared to the same month last year (3.8 million tons).
As many as 6.25 million tons of iron ore pellets were produced in the country during the first month, a decrease of 1.4 percent compared to the same period last year (6.34 million tons).
Besides, 6.58 million tons of iron ore concentrate were produced in the first month, representing an increase of 1.1 percent compared to the same month last year (6.5 million tons).
To note, Iran's annual steel production capacity is around 40 million tons.
Additionally, in the last Iranian year (from March 20, 2024, through March 20, 2025), Iran's crude steel production amounted to approximately 30.3 million tons, which is a 5.7 percent decrease compared to the previous year (from March 21, 2023, through March 19, 2024).
