BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 20. Iran has purchased 139,000 tons of rapeseed from farmers under a guaranteed procurement scheme since the beginning of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2025), said Mohammad-Reza Talaei, Executive Director of the Central Union of Rural and Agricultural Cooperatives of Iran (CURACI), Trend reports.
Speaking at an event organized by the Ministry of Agriculture in Tehran, Talaei noted that 126,000 tons of the purchased rapeseed have already been delivered to edible oil processing factories, while 12,000 tons have been placed in storage facilities.
He noted that contracts have been signed this year (from March 21, 2025, through March 20, 2026) with domestic oil production companies for the processing of 196,000 tons of rapeseed.
The CURACI official added that over 60 percent of the payment for the purchased rapeseed has already been made, and under the contracts, the remaining amount must be paid to farmers within one month.
“It is expected that an additional 70,000 tons of rapeseed will be purchased from farmers on a guaranteed basis, bringing the total volume to approximately 200,000–210,000 tons,” he said.
This year, the purchase price for one kilogram of rapeseed in Iran is set at 410,000 rials (about $0.72).
