Iran's Minister of Culture Ali Jannati says that determined investigations have started to investigate circumstances for the country to join international conventions on intellectual property.
He noted that in case circumstances show to be favorable, Iran will join the conventions, IRNA news agency reported Mar. 1.
He also stated that a law on artistic ownership has been drafted and passed by the government which is one of the most comprehensive laws in the country.
Jannati noted that the President Hassan Rouhani's administration is determined in pursuing laws related to the ownership of artistic work which has been so far neglected in Iran.
The official expressed pity that contrary to developed countries, Iran enjoys little share from creative industries in its gross domestic product.
Iran ranked 107 among 130 countries in the International Property Rights Index (IPRI) for 2012.
The Index focuses on three areas: Legal and Political Environment (LP), Physical Property Rights (PPR), and Intellectual Property Rights (IPR).
Iran ranks 105 (Political Environment), 101 (Physical Property Rights) and 107 (Intellectual Property Rights) respectively for the areas by 3.5, 5.5 and 3.8 scores.
Iran's overall IPRI score has stood on 4.3 from 10 in the report.
