Japanese TEPCO Power Grid discussed the possible expansion of its business in Georgia with the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Natia Turnava, Trend reports via Georgian media.
The sides considered the Japanese company's expansion in Georgia's energy sector and possible investment in other energy facilities.
Natia Turnava informed the representatives of the Japanese company about the high economic growth observed in Georgia in 2021.
The minister also cited the forecast of the International Monetary Fund and other financial organizations, according to which Georgia's economic growth rate in the medium term will be the highest not only in the region but also in Europe.
Georgian government is considering making more emphasis on the development of the renewable energy sector and finding potential investors, Turnava added.
Meanwhile, TEPCO Power Grid already owns a 31.4 percent share in Dariali hydropower plant in Georgia. This is only the second investment of the company outside Japan, which shows the interest of the Japanese company in Georgia and the region in general.
