The liabilities of Georgia’s commercial banks in January 2022 totaled 52.1 billion Georgian lari ($16.8 billion), Trend reports via statistical data of the National Bank of Georgia (NBG).
The current figure slightly decreased by 1.3 percent, compared to 52.8 billion Georgian lari ($17 billion) in December 2021, but, at the same time, increased by 3.3 percent, compared to 50.4 billion Georgian lari ($16.2 billion) in January 2021.
The liabilities of Georgia’s commercial banks in January 2022 accounted for 86.6 percent of the total assets (60 billion Georgian lari, or $19.3 million).
Of the total liabilities of Georgian commercial banks in January 2022, the bank deposits amounted to 746.7 million Georgian lari ($240.8 million), which is a decrease of 6.1 percent, compared to 795.6 million Georgian lari ($256.6 million) in December 2021. However, the same figure increased by 7.2 percent, compared to 696.2 million Georgian lari ($224.5 million) in January 2021.
Meanwhile, the non-bank deposits amounted to 36.7 billion Georgian lari ($11.8 billion), which is a decrease of 1.3 percent, compared to 37.2 billion Georgian lari ($12 billion) in December 2021. However, the same figure increased by 5.4 percent, compared to 34.8 billion Georgian lari ($11.2 billion) in January 2021.
The accrued interest and dividends payable in January 2022 amounted to 267.8 million Georgian lari ($86.3 million) of the total liabilities, while borrowed funds totaled 10.2 billion Georgian lari ($3.2 billion), and other liabilities – 4 billion Georgian lari ($1.2 billion).
The total assets of Georgia’s commercial banks in January 2022 totaled 60 billion Georgian lari ($19.3 billion) – an increase of 6.3 percent, compared to 56.4 billion Georgian lari ($18.1 billion) over the same period of 2021. However, the same figure decreased by 0.8 percent, compared to 60.5 billion Georgian lari ($19.5 billion) in December 2021.
