As of July 2019, Istanbul had the largest share among the Turkish cities with the most driven cars, Trend reports referring to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK).
It was noted that the percentage of cars in Istanbul made up 35.3 percent for the aforementioned period.
"The percentage of vehicles during the specified period amounted to 5.7 percent in Izmir, 8.7 percent in Ankara and 4.3 percent in Antalya," the report reads.
According to the information, the remaining 46 percent accounts for other cities.
In July 2019, the number of vehicles on Turkish roads increased by 61.30 percent compared to the same month of 2018 and amounted to 23.086 million vehicles.
The share of cars amounted to 54.1 percent, that of vans and trucks to 16.4 percent, motorcycles to 14.3 percent, tractors to 8.2 percent, and of other vehicles to 7 percent.
Renault accounted for 20 percent of active vehicles used in July 2019, Fiat – 14.5 percent, Volkswagen – 9.3 percent, Peugeot – 5.6 percent, Honda – 4.5 percent.
The remaining 46.4 percent accounted for other car brands.
Turkey ranks sixth in Europe in car production. Models of Ford, FIAT, Renault, Toyota, Honda, Opel, Hyundai, Mercedes-Benz and MAN are currently assembled in Turkey. Turkey also manufactures local brands of buses such as BMC, Temsa and Otokar.
