The project implemented in Azerbaijan with financial support from the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs of Switzerland (SECO) has been extended until October 2020, Chairperson of Association of Women Entrepreneurs of Azerbaijan Sakina Babayeva told Trend.
As part of this project, it is planned to open regular small businesses in the country’s regions. Meanwhile, within the framework of the project, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) were created aimed at supporting women's entrepreneurship, the chairperson said.
In particular, they were opened in Tovuz, Gadabay, Oghuz, Khachmaz, Ismayilli, Imishli, Gazakh and other districts. The largest number of women's business facilities was opened in the Tovuz and Gadabay districts.
Initially, it was scheduled to open small businesses in 10 regions of the country. The cost of the project at the initial stage of its implementation amounted to 120,000 manat ($70,588).
The project is sponsored by Azerbaijan’s Association of Women Entrepreneurs and SECO on an equal footing.
According to the statistics, over 143,000 women are currently employed in the business sector in Azerbaijan.
The Association of Women Entrepreneurs was established in October 2017 with the support of the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs of Azerbaijan.
The Swiss SECO is the federal government center of expertise for all substantive issues related to economic policy. The main objective of the SECO is to ensure sustainable economic growth by regulating economic policy.
In Switzerland, SECO acts as a bridge between the business, social communities and government, and supports the development of a balanced Swiss economy and also protects workers' rights.
Through the labor market development policy, SECO helps to prevent unemployment, and therefore to maintain social well-being.
