Iran's National Iranian Tanker Company (NITC) rents its oil tankers to foreign companies, the NITC managing director, Ali Akbar Safaei said.
The NITC was the first Iranian company which resolved the problems regarding receiving finance from foreign banks after lifting the sanctions last January, Safaei said, the oil ministry's official SHANA news agency reported.
The NITC also was the first Iranian company which rents its fleet to foreign companies in post-sanctions period, he added.
He further said that based on an approved investment plan, over $2.5 billion will be invested in various sectors to expand the company's activities.
Safaei said in January that the NITC has received various financial proposals from foreign companies including a credit line worth $3 billion.
The company is currently considering the proposals to develop the maritime transport, he said.
The NITC owns 62 tankers and a number of large vessels with a capacity to load and carry 15.4 million tons of goods and products.
The international sanctions imposed on Iran with regard to its nuclear program have been removed as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA, aka nuclear deal) entered the implementation phase on Jan. 16.
Iran and the P5+1 group of countries (the US, France, the UK, Germany, China, and Russia) in July 2015 agreed a landmark nuclear deal to curb Tehran's sensitive nuclear activities in return for the lifting of international sanctions on the Islamic Republic.
