The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources organized a press-tour to Hirkan National Park, situated on the territory of Lankaran region, within the Year of Environment. The tour was organized under the slogan "2010 - Year of Environment - for the sake of Green Peace". The purpose of the trip is to familiarize the press with the flora and fauna of Hirkan National Park, the ministry spokesman Irada Ibrahimova said.
She said that this tour is only a part of the complex activities undertaken by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources. Such trips will be organized in other parks in future.
The area of the national park in 2004, when it was created, hit 21,435 hectares, Hirkan National Park deputy director for scientific work Hajiaga Safarov said. Currently, the area of the park is increased and brought to 40,358 hectares. "The National Park was established to preserve relics of the third period in its original form for future generations," deputy director said.
He said that at the moment all necessary conditions are created for the development of ecotourism in the park.
There are about 1,204 species of plants on the territory of Hirkan National Park.
