BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 3. On April 3, Anar
Karimov, First Deputy Minister of Finance of the Republic of
Azerbaijan, met with Serdar Yilmaz, Practice Manager for the Public
Finance and Procurement Unit at the World Bank, and Stefanie
Stallmeister, the World Bank’s Country Manager for Azerbaijan, and
discussed prospects for expanding cooperation between Azerbaijan
and the World Bank, Trend reports.
The meeting focused particularly on the current and forthcoming
initiatives in the field of public financial management.
Karimov noted that Azerbaijan attaches great importance to
cooperation with the World Bank, and that the activities carried
out within the framework of this partnership are of particular
significance for improving the public financial management system.
It was also emphasized that the World Bank’s support in this area
is highly valued and makes a significant contribution to the
effectiveness of the reforms being implemented.
The First Deputy Minister of Finance added that efforts to
monitor state-owned enterprises and the reforms implemented are
aimed at increasing transparency and accountability in this sector,
and that further measures in this direction are planned for the
coming period.
For his part, Yilmaz expressed satisfaction with the
long-standing cooperation with Azerbaijan, commended the reforms
implemented in the area of monitoring state-owned enterprises, and
stated the World Bank’s readiness to provide technical support in
this regard.
The meeting featured a broad exchange of views on potential
technical assistance projects that the World Bank could provide, as
well as on the challenges facing the State-Owned Enterprises
Monitoring Agency and the work that needs to be done in this
area.
The parties noted the importance of sharing experience in this
field and expanding opportunities for joint activities.
