BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, August 24. A total of 18 million cubic meters of natural gas in liquid and gas form was produced in Kyrgyzstan from January through July 2023, Trend reports.

Data from the State Statistical Committee of the country shows that this figure is 12.5 percent higher than the volume recorded during the same period in 2022 (16 million cubic meters).

In July 2023, the country's natural gas production decreased by 15 percent year-on-year, amounting to 1.7 million cubic meters compared to 2 million cubic meters produced in July 2022.

Back in February of this year, the deputy general director of the Gazprom branch in Kyrgyzstan mentioned the necessity of developing gas fields in the southern part of the country to reduce dependence on gas from Uzbekistan.

He pointed out that Kyrgyzstan has its own confirmed gas fields, containing nearly 4 to 4.5 billion cubic meters of gas, which would be sufficient to supply the southern region of Kyrgyzstan for about 80–90 years.

Furthermore, Kyrgyzstan imported a total of 224.144 million cubic meters of natural gas from January through June 2023, which is an increase of 12.5 percent compared to the same period in 2022 when imports were at 199.269 million cubic meters.
