BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 21. Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with Khalilur Rahman, president of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly and Bangladesh’s foreign minister, to discuss expanding cooperation with the UN and strengthening bilateral ties on October 20 in Tashkent.

This was reflected in the statement by the press service of the Uzbek president.

Rahman arrived in Uzbekistan to attend the World Summit on “Investing in the Well-being of Children: A Path to Sustainable and Equitable Development for Future Generations,” scheduled for Oct. 21-22 in Samarkand, according to the Uzbek president’s press service.

During the meeting, Mirziyoyev congratulated Rahman on his election as president of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, noting that Uzbekistan was the first country he had visited in that capacity. Rahman, in turn, conveyed greetings from UN Secretary-General António Guterres to the Uzbek leader.

The sides exchanged views on expanding cooperation with the United Nations and its specialized bodies. At Uzbekistan’s initiative, the General Assembly has adopted 15 resolutions in recent years, including two in 2026, according to the statement.

Uzbekistan actively participates in the work of the UN’s key bodies and agencies. The country has also put forward its candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for the 2035-2036 term.

Additionally, the talks covered cooperation on the UN Sustainable Development Goals, regional integration in Central Asia, climate change mitigation, the promotion of a culture of peace and interfaith dialogue.

Mirziyoyev and Rahman reaffirmed their interest in expanding multifaceted cooperation between Uzbekistan and Bangladesh, which the statement described as a rapidly developing South Asian country.
