BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 4. Azerbaijan's tobacco leaf harvest is expected to grow by almost 17 percent during 2024–2027, a government source told Trend.
The government's forecasts show that tobacco production may reach 6.600 tons in 2024, 6.900 tons in 2025, 7.400 tons in 2026, and 7.700 tons in 2027.
The State Statistics Committee data shows that the country produced 5.300 tons of tobacco from January through November 2023, compared to 4.300 tons in the same period in 2022.
The increase in tobacco production is also reflected in the country's plans to increase cigarette production in Azerbaijan.
The production of 14.09 billion pieces of cigarettes is planned for 2024, 14.67 billion pieces in 2025, 15.214 billion pieces in 2026, and 15.92 billion pieces in 2027.
The World Health Organization recommends that tobacco products be subject to taxes (excise taxes).
