BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 31. Tobacco production in Azerbaijan has seen a substantial increase, with the country producing 4,264.9 tons of tobacco last year.
The data obtained by Trend from the country's State Statistics Committee shows that this marks an increase of 1,952.1 tons, or 84.4 percent, compared to the previous year.
Moreover, the stock of finished tobacco products amounted to 768.2 tons as of January 1, 2025.
Meanwhile, the country produced 16.1 billion cigarettes and cigars, reflecting a small increase of 65.4 million units, or 0.4 percent, compared to 2023.
Additionally, Azerbaijan's retail sales of tobacco products for 2024 reached 62.2 million manat ($36.5 million). The service sector also saw a notable increase, with paid services totaling 12.8 million manat ($7.5 million), an 8.6 percent rise from the previous year. Overall, the trade turnover increased by 3.9 percent.
Notably, the consumer price index for food, beverages, and tobacco products in December 2024 was at 102 percent compared to November, and for the entire year, it stood at 101.3 percent compared to the previous year.
