BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 19. Iranian Central Oil Fields Company (ICOFC) has announced its plan to start producing gas from the Khartang gas field in the next Iranian year (March 20, 2024 through March 20, 2025), Executive Director of Iran’s Central Oil Fields Company (ICOFC), Mehdi Heydari said, Trend reports.
Heydari said that the Khartang gas field, located 60 kilometers from Khurmoj city in Bushehr Province, is the third gas field in the province after Nar and Kangan gas fields that ICOFC is responsible for developing.
He added that the gas production from this field will help reduce the gap between the country’s gas supply and demand.
The director also said that the next year will be a crucial year for the development of many oil and gas fields under ICOFC’s supervision. He noted that the company is preparing seriously for this purpose.
The Khartang gas field was discovered in 2013 and has an estimated reserve of 16.4 trillion cubic feet (about 465 billion cubic meters) of gas and 261 million barrels of gas condensate.
On average, Iran currently produces about 259 billion cubic meters of gas annually and more than 800 million cubic meters daily.
Although gas consumption in the country is on average 720 million cubic meters per day, this consumption rises to 1.3 billion cubic meters per day in the winter season. This creates a daily shortage of 250-300 million cubic meters of gas consumption. Iran is looking for various ways to overcome this deficiency
