The Ministry of Information Technologies and Communications Development of Uzbekistan is planned to be transformed into the Ministry of Digital Development, Trend reports citing Uzbek media.
The new ministry aims to reach big achievements. In particular, it intends to double the share of the digital economy in Uzbekistan’s GDP by 2023 and make about 60 percent of public services available in electronic form.
These tasks have been set by a draft presidential decree aiming to improve governance in the areas of e-government and the digital economy.
The document defines the most important directions for the further development of the digital economy and e-government, including the creation of a network of technological platforms for the development of software products and provision of information services, which will make it possible to increase the volume of services in this area by 2023 by three times, and their export to $100 million.
In addition, the authorities expect to double the share of the digital economy in the gross domestic product by 2023, including through the introduction of a set of information systems for production management, wide use of software products for accounting and reporting in financial and economic activities, as well as automation of technological processes.
It is planned to introduce digital technologies at all stages of the education system, to improve the educational infrastructure and to introduce programs for the mastering of "digital" skills needed in the modern economy, and, as part of the "Five Initiatives" program, to complete the opening of digital skills training centers in all regions by 2022.
In addition, a non-budgetary Digital Development Fund and Telecommunication Infrastructure and Communication Development Fund will be established.
As expected, these measures will help further develop the digital economy of Uzbekistan.
