Iran unveils investments for its Qom Province solar plant

BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 7. A total of 56.8 trillion rials (about $127 million) was invested in the construction of new solar power plants in Qom Province, located in northern Iran, executive director of the Qom Electricity Distribution Company of Iran, Yousef Sadeghi, told reporters, Trend reports.

Sadeqi stated that the planned investment, which aims to establish solar power plants in Qom Province, has already reached agreements, and the province has built solar power plants worth 4.78 trillion rials, or roughly $10 million, to date.

The official also highlighted that the current electricity production from solar power plants in Qom stands at 18.3 thousand kilowatt-hours, playing a key role in reducing the province’s electricity shortages.

Furthermore, according to the Iranian Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Organization, the total electricity production potential from renewable energy sources in Iran currently stands at 1,317 megawatts. Of this, solar power plants contribute 608 megawatts, accounting for 60 percent of the country’s renewable energy production capacity.
