ASTANA, Kazakhstan, January 21. Kazakhstan plans to build 41 waste recycling plants, and the issue of constructing sorting and processing plants for municipal solid waste was discussed today at a meeting of the Kazakh Government, Trend reports.

Currently, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources is reviewing 65 projects with a total value of 307 billion tenge ($579.2 million).

Out of the entire list of proposed enterprises, 41 specialize in secondary waste processing. Their total processing capacity will amount to 1.1 million tons per year. The implementation of all projects will create more than 4,500 jobs and attract 54.6 billion tenge ($103 million) in private investments.

During the "Taza Kazakhstan" Environmental Initiative, participants in the large-scale project collected over 1.1 million tons of waste and planted about 1.6 million trees. Satellite images last year assisted in identifying approximately 4,800 illegal waste dumps in Kazakhstan, nearly all of which have undergone elimination.
