BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 15. Iran has boosted production at the South Azadegan oil field (Majnoon in Iraq), a joint oil field between Iran and Iraq, with output rising by 3,000 barrels per day, Hamidreza Saghafi, the director of Petropars Group, told reporters,Trend reports.
Saghafi explained that the increase was achieved following the commissioning of Well 52 at the South Azadegan field on September 9. He added that this has raised the field’s production capacity to 61,900 barrels per day.
The official noted that the field currently operates 37 production wells.
To note, Petro Pars Company (PPC) had previously commissioned two new wells at South Azadegan, boosting daily production potential by 8,000 barrels to a total capacity of 59,000 barrels per day.
The South Azadegan field is estimated to hold 28.2 billion barrels of crude oil, of which approximately 1.6 billion barrels are considered recoverable. Development plans for the field envisage a first phase producing 320,000 barrels of crude oil per day along with 7 million cubic meters of natural gas, and a second phase producing 280,000 barrels per day.
