BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, April 4. Kyrgyzstan and Russia have agreed to further strengthen and expand cooperation in the transport sector, Trend reports via the Kyrgyz Ministry of Transport and Communications.

The agreement was reached on April 1, 2026, during a meeting between Kyrgyzstan’s Minister of Transport and Communications, Talantbek Soltobaev, and Russia’s Minister of Transport, Andrei Nikitin.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the International Transport and Logistics Forum in St. Petersburg.

During the talks, the parties discussed current issues of bilateral cooperation in transport and logistics, as well as prospects for further development of transport links.

Particular attention was given to Kyrgyzstan’s accession to the Agreement on the International Road Network and the signing of the relevant protocol.

The sides also discussed Kyrgyzstan’s accession to the Intergovernmental Agreement on International Road Transport along the Asian Highway Network dated December 8, 2016, and the signing of the corresponding protocol.

At the same time, they addressed preparations for and the holding of a session of the Joint Commission on International Road Transport.

The ministers emphasized the importance of joint efforts to develop sustainable transport corridors, enhance transit potential, and improve the efficiency of freight transportation.

Meanwhile, cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and Russia in the transport sector has been steadily developing in recent years, driven by efforts to improve regional connectivity and facilitate trade flows. Both countries are working to enhance road, rail, and logistics infrastructure, as well as to streamline cross-border transportation procedures.
