BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 28. The volume of gas transported to different provinces of Iran has increased by 2 bcm from the beginning of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2024) to the present (January 27, 2025) compared to the same period last year, Executive Director of Iran's Gas Transmission Company Peyman Khazraei told reporters, Trend reports.

According to him, a total of more than 228 bcm of gas was transmitted to different provinces of Iran during the mentioned period.

Khazraei added that the highest number of gas transportations was recorded on January 13 this year. As many as 876 million cubic meters of gas were transported on that day.

The official noted that the Iranian Gas Transmission Company currently has ten operating zones in the country. The new operating zone in Zahedan City, Sistan and Baluchestan Province, located in the southeast of Iran, will soon be put into operation,, and the number of operating zones will increase to 11.

The main task of the Iran Gas Transmission Company is to transport natural gas, ethane, liquefied gas, gas condensate, or swap products in the country. This company has ten operating zones in ten provinces of Iran. This company has more than 38,000 km of pipeline, 88 gas pressure stations, 9 gas export and import terminals, and can transport more than 280 bcm of gas per year.

Iran is considered the world's second-largest gas reserve country, with reserves of about 34 trillion cubic meters of gas. Currently, a total of 22 gas fields are operating in Iran.

To note, Iran's daily gas production averages 1 bcm. Gas consumption in Iran increases to about 800 million cubic meters per day in winter.
