Over 12.63 million metric tons of crude steel were produced in Iran during the first nine months of current Iranian fiscal year (March 21-Dec. 22, 2014), Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO) said Jan. 17.
The figure is 6 percent more compared the same months of preceding year.
The country's crude steel production stood at 1.366 million metric tons in ninth Iranian calendar month of Azar (Nov. 22-Dec. 22, 2014).
A major raw steel producer of Iran, Mobarakeh Steel Company produced 4.102 million metric tons of crude steel during the period, followed by the Khuzestan Steel Company with about 2.556 million metric tons and the Isfahan Foundry with 2.1 million metric tons.
Iranian companies also produced 13 million metric tons of steel products during the 9-month period. The figure indicates a 3.6 percent growth compared to the same months of last year.
The country's steel products output during the ninth calendar month stood at 1.362 million metric tons.
Iran produced 15.6 million metric tons of crude steel during the last fiscal year (ended on March 21, 2014), 8.8 percent more in comparison with preceding year.
Islamic Republic's steel products output also stood at 16.5 million metric tons in last fiscal year, indicating a 5 percent decrease year on year.
Iran's crude steel production reached 15.421 million metric tons in 2013, which is 6.6 percent more than its preceding year. Iran was the world's 15th biggest producer of steel in 2013, according to the World Steel Association.
Over 1.582 billion metric tons of crude steel were produced in the world in 2013.
The country plans to increase its annual steel output to 55 million metric tons by the end of the Fifth Five-Year Development Plan (2015).
