Iran has injected 1.720 billion cubic meters of gas to its storage facility in north eastern country during the first eight months of the current fiscal year (started March 2017).
The gas injected into the storage facility of Shourijeh, located in the northeastern province of Razavi Khorasan has increased by 24 percent during the 8-month period, compared to the same period of the preceding year, Managing Director of Shahid Hasheminejad Gas Refining Company Majid Monabati said, the official website of the NIGC reported.
Monabati said that the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) will face no problems in supplying gas demands of northern and north eastern provinces during the cold season.
Iran has two gas storage facilities, Shourijeh, and Serajeh with a capacity to store 3.5 billion cubic meters of gas. The latter is located in the central Qom province.
It was earlier announced that over 2.5 bcm of natural gas is planned to be injected into Shourijeh during the 8-month period.(March 20-Nov. 20).
Within one Iranian fiscal year (starting in March), Iran on average has been injecting 2.5 million cubic meters (mcm) of gas into Sarajeh storage facility during the first 8 months, and extracting on average 4.8 mcm/day from the facility during the remaining four months.
The natural gas stored in Sarajeh facility mainly is used to meet gas demand of Tehran in the cold season, meanwhile Shourijeh supplies gas to north eastern provinces of the country.
The country plans to increase the capacity to 11.3 in the coming years.
Iran plans to increase commercial gas production capacity to 1.25 bcm/d by 2021.
