ASTANA, Kazakhstan, February 6. The United Nations (UN) Permanent Mission in Kazakhstan has confirmed its support for the initiative to organize the Regional Climate Summit in 2026, Trend reports via the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Kazakhstan.
On February 5, 2025, the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Kazakhstan Yerlan Nyssanbayev met with UN and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) representatives in Kazakhstan.
Acting UN Resident Coordinator in Kazakhstan, O'Malley Stephen, expressed support for the proposed initiative and confirmed the UN's readiness to assist in organizing the Regional Climate Summit in 2026. He emphasized that holding this event would be a significant step in developing regional cooperation and would help attract international resources and expert communities to implement the climate agenda of Central Asia.
Kazakhstan remains firmly committed to the Sustainable Development Goals and fulfilling its obligations under the Paris Agreement. The Regional Climate Summit in 2026 will be an important milestone on this path, providing a platform for discussing key challenges, sharing best practices, and developing strategic solutions to combat climate change in the Central Asian region.
To note, the initiative was announced by the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, during the 78th session of the UN General Assembly.
