The military announcement ousting Egyptian president Mohammed Morsi was a "sad day for Egypt's democratic aspirations, a betrayal of the #Jan25 revolution and the millions of Egyptians who believed in democracy," Morsi's Muslim Brotherhood said on its official English-language Twitter account, dpa reported.
The conservative Islamist group also confirmed that its Misr25 television channel had been taken off the air by the military.
