ASTANA, Kazakhstan, January 29. In 2024, Kazakhstan reaped a bountiful harvest of 26.7 million tons of grain and legume crops, marking the first time in 13 years that such a yield has been achieved, Trend reports, citing the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan.
An increase in crop production by 21.1 percent and livestock
production by 3.2 percent contributed to a 13.7 percent rise in the
total agricultural output, reaching 8.3 trillion tenge ($15.77
billion).
Significant funds were allocated for spring fieldwork, harvesting,
and agricultural equipment leasing. For the first time, the volume
of preferential lending was raised to 580 billion tenge ($1.10
billion) at an annual rate of 5 percent—a substantial increase from
previous years when it did not exceed 160 billion tenge ($304
million). These measures allowed farmers to fully implement all
necessary agrotechnical activities.
Additionally, the share of elite seeds used increased from 7.1
percent to 9 percent. Small and medium-sized farms, which make up
90 percent of borrowers, received the necessary resources for
development.
Today, Kazakhstan's agro-industrial complex employs more than 1.1
million people, directly impacting the financial well-being of over
4 million citizens. Agriculture is becoming not only a key economic
sector but also a fundamental factor in social stability.
To note, by the end of 2024, domestic food production reached 3.2
trillion tenge ($6.08 billion), with the physical volume index
standing at 102.9 percent.
