BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 14. An event dedicated to Pakistan's Independence Day has been held at the Pakistani Embassy in Baku, Trend's correspondent reports.
The event was attended by Pakistani Ambassador Qasim Mohiuddin, representatives of the diplomatic corps, the Pakistani community, and the Azerbaijani public.
The event marks Pakistan's national holiday, which commemorates the country's declaration of independence on August 14, 1947.
Speaking to reporters at the event Pakistani Ambassador to Azerbaijan said that strong friendly relations between Pakistan and Azerbaijan are based on mutual respect, cultural ties, and close contacts between the two peoples.
Mohiuddin noted the historical significance of Pakistan’s establishment as an independent state, highlighting the great sacrifices made by the country’s founders for the sake of the freedom and well-being of future generations.
The ambassador also highlighted the role of cultural and educational ties in strengthening relations between Pakistan and Azerbaijan, noting the existence of Urdu language departments at Baku State University and Azerbaijan University of Languages.
“It is precisely this bond, based on friendship and mutual respect, that forms the foundation of our brotherhood,” Mohiuddin said.
The diplomat also expressed hope for the further strengthening of fraternal relations between Pakistan and Azerbaijan.
In conclusion, Mohiuddin expressed his gratitude to the participants for joining in the celebration of Pakistan’s Independence Day.
In addition, the ambassador read out Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari's address. In the address the President mentioned that Pakistan will continue to support regional peace and dialogue.
In his message, Zardari paid tribute to the country’s founder, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, as well as to all those who sacrificed their homes, safety, and livelihoods in the struggle to establish Pakistan.
“Independence is not merely a historical achievement. It is also a responsibility that every generation must carry forward,” the address said.
According to Zardari, recent events have demonstrated the strength of the Pakistani people, as well as the country’s determination and ability to defend its sovereignty and national interests. He emphasized that strength also entails a responsibility to prevent conflicts, preserve peace, and protect the interests of the people.
The president noted Pakistan’s role in promoting dialogue in the region, emphasizing that the country uses its channels of communication, geographic location, and diplomatic capabilities to encourage dialogue and de-escalation.
“Pakistan will continue to support efforts aimed at reducing tensions, ensuring regional stability, and creating conditions for cooperation,” the message reads.
Furthermore, Zardari emphasized the need to strengthen Pakistan’s economy, create new opportunities, improve education and vocational skills, and implement reforms in public administration, the economy, and social policy.
“Pakistan’s greatest strength is its youth,” the address noted. In this regard, the President emphasized the importance of providing the younger generation with education, skills, and opportunities to realize their potential.
