BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, April 16. Hydropower plants financed by the Russian-Kyrgyz Development Fund (RKDF) are expected to produce around 600 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, Trend reports via the RKDF.
The chairman of the RKDF, Artem Novikov, said during a recent visit to the facility that construction of the Shamshi small hydropower plant in the Chuy region is on schedule.
The Shamshy HPP is part of RKDF’s broader effort to support Kyrgyzstan’s energy independence and expand capacity to meet rising demand from both households and businesses. It is one of 16 energy facilities being built with the Fund’s assistance across various regions. Some of these plants have already been commissioned, and four more are expected to launch this year.
The Shamshy plant is being built by local company Grand Magnat LLC, with $1 million in financing provided by RKDF under an agreement signed in October 2024. Once completed, the 1.7 MW facility is projected to generate up to 10 million kWh of electricity annually, covering approximately 10 percent of the Chuy district’s yearly power consumption.
“Small hydropower plants like Shamshy lay the foundation for achieving the energy goals set by President Sadyr Zhaparov. The Russian-Kyrgyz Development Fund remains a reliable partner and investor in Kyrgyzstan’s energy sector, and we will continue to support government plans aimed at strengthening the country’s energy security,” Novikov said.
