In order to increase exports of Turkmen electricity, preparations are underway in the country to create overhead power transmission lines Mary-Sarakhs-Mashhad (Iran) with a voltage of 500-400 kilowatts, according to the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper.
It is also planned to create power transmission lines in the direction of Balkanabat-Gonbad (Iran).
“Building these power bridges will ensure the export of electricity to Iran and Turkey through transit via Iranian energy system,” the newspaper reports.
In addition, work is underway to build transmission lines along the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline for supplying electricity to Pakistan.
Turkmenistan produced 18,360,611,000 kilowatt hours of electricity in January-September 2017. Compared to the same period of 2016, the growth rate amounted to 103.8 percent.
In 2020, the country plans to produce 26.38 billion kilowatt hours of electricity.
Neutral Turkmenistan reports that two gas turbines with a capacity of 263.5 megawatts each will be launched at the Mary power plant in eastern Turkmenistan in 2017.
It is also planned to switch the country’s Dashoguz power plant and the Derweze District gas turbine power plant to combined cycle.
The technology introduced in Turkmenistan for the first time will save natural gas in electricity generation and reduce the amount of harmful emissions into the environment.
Last year, a gas turbine station with a capacity of 254 megawatts was commissioned in Turkmenistan’s Lebap province. It produces about 6 million kilowatt hours of electricity per day, which allows increasing the export of electricity to Afghanistan.
