ASTANA, Kazakhstan, January 10. Kazakhstan became the first country in Central Asia to support the ICAO initiative by adopting a National Plan for the reduction of CO2 emissions into the environment, Trend reports via the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
"In order to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals in the fight against climate change, as well as to support the International Civil Aviation Organization's (ICAO) initiative to reduce the aviation industry's impact on global climate, the aviation authorities of the Republic of Kazakhstan have adopted the National Plan for reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions in the aviation sector," the ministry stated.
The ministry also emphasized that the plan includes the implementation of several initiatives, such as measures to improve airport infrastructure using energy-efficient technologies, the development of coordinated measures for the transition of industry entities to sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), and legislative amendments to support ICAO's carbon offset program.
To note, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations, which sets international standards for civil aviation and coordinates its development to enhance safety and efficiency.
