ASTANA, Kazakhstan, February 28. The Agency for the Protection and Development of Competition of the Republic of Kazakhstan has achieved the termination of illegal activities of subsidiaries of the International Center for Cross-Border Cooperation "Khorgos," Trend reports.
The Department of the Agency for the Protection and Development of Competition in the Jetiysu region of Kazakhstan identified violations of antimonopoly legislation by the companies "Khorgos-Kommerc," "Khorgos-Energo," and "Khorgos-Service" – subsidiaries of the JSC Managing Company of the Special Economic Zone “Khorgos”. Orders were issued to terminate activities that were not in compliance with the law regarding these companies.
"Khorgos-Kommerc" and "Khorgos-Service" challenged the order in court, but the courts upheld the antimonopoly authority's requirements as legitimate. As a result of the court decision, these companies ceased operations in their previous format.
The antimonopoly authority suggested privatizing these companies and transferring them to a competitive environment, which would allow them to continue working under market conditions.
The International Center for Cross-Border Cooperation "Khorgos" is a large international complex located on the border between Kazakhstan and China, near the city of Khorgos. The center was created to promote trade and economic relations between the two countries and is an important hub for the transportation of goods and logistics. The main functions and objectives of the center are: trade and logistics, cultural and economic cooperation, economic zone, and transport hub.
