BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 30. Despite the commanding presence of Zolotaya Korona, Western Union maintained its position as Kazakhstan’s second-largest money transfer operator in April 2025, the National Bank of Kazakhstan says, Trend reports.
According to the latest data, Western Union processed 10,880 transactions, securing a 7.6% share of the total number of outbound money transfers.
In monetary terms, it facilitated 7.05 billion tenge ($13.8 million) worth of transfers, accounting for 12.3% of the total volume - a noticeable share in a highly concentrated market.
Meanwhile, Zolotaya Korona handled an impressive 125,930 transactions, capturing 87.5% of the total number of outbound transfers. In terms of value, it accounted for 47.17 billion tenge ($92.7 million), or 82.1% of the total amount sent abroad via money transfer systems.
While far behind Zolotaya Korona’s figures, Western Union remains a key player for higher-value transfers, as evidenced by its larger share of total money sent (12.3%) compared to its transaction count (7.6%). This suggests that, on average, Western Union transactions tend to be of higher value than those through other systems.
Overall, Kazakhstan's residents sent 144,000 transactions abroad via money transfer systems (MTS) in April 2025, amounting to a total of 57.4 billion tenge (approximately $113 million).
