As many as 102,200 twenty-foot equivalent units have been moved through the dry port of the Khorgos-Eastern Gate special economic zone on the Kazakh-Chinese border since the beginning of 2018, which is 36 percent more than in the same period of 2017.
This was noted at a meeting in Shanghai of Kanat Alpysbayev, Chairman of the Board of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy JSC (national railway company of Kazakhstan, KTZ), with the heads of a number of provinces and major transport and logistics companies of China, KTZ press service reported.
During the negotiations with Sui Jun, Deputy Director General of COSCO Shipping Corporation Limited, and Zhu Xianyang, President of the Lianyungang port, the successful cooperation on the development of the dry port of the Khorgos-Eastern Gate SEZ, which will ensure the integration of Kazakhstan transit corridors into the international logistics network, was noted.
Alpysbayev proposed to consider the creation of a container operator and investment in container assets for their further joint use in several directions through the territory of Kazakhstan – China-Russia-China, China-Central Asian countries-China and Trans-Caspian International Transport Route.
"Our partnership will allow us to expand the geography of transportation in the direction of Turkey, the Caucasus, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran and ensure control over transcontinental transit traffic through the levers of geographical presence and influence on tariffs," said the KTZ Board chairman.
The current state and prospects of cooperation in the development of container traffic on the China-Europe-China route through the territory of Kazakhstan were discussed at meetings with the Vice Mayor of Chengdu city Liu Xiaoliu, Vice Governor of Hunan province He Baoxiang, and other officials.
The parties noted the growth of container traffic from China to the EU countries and vice versa. For 10 months of 2018, as many as 508 trains (20,862 twenty-foot equivalent units) ran this route, which is 4 times more compared to the same period of 2017.
