ASTANA, Kazakhstan, April 29. Kazakhstan's KazAzot (a producer of ammonia and ammonium nitrate) plans to ship 50,000 tons of ammonium nitrate along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR, or Middle Corridor) to the port of Batumi (Georgia) in 2024, Trend reports.
On February 13, KazAzot exported ammonium nitrate for the first
time via the Middle Corridor. The cargo was delivered from the port
of Aktau to the port of Hovsan (Azerbaijan), then transshipped at
the seaport of Batumi (Georgia) for export to global markets.
Notably, between January and March 2024, Batumi Sea Port shipped
6,012 tons of Kazakhstani ammonium nitrate through the Middle
Corridor.
In the first quarter of 2024, 435,000 tons of cargo were handled at
Batumi Sea Port's dry cargo terminal, a 4% increase over the same
period last year.
The Middle Corridor is a transportation and trade route that connects Asia and Europe, passing through several countries in the region. It is an alternative route to the traditional Northern Corridor and Southern Corridor.
The route starts in China and crosses Central Asian countries such as Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan. It then passes through the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Türkiye before reaching Europe.
The Middle Corridor offers a land route that connects the eastern parts of Asia, including China, with Europe, bypassing the longer maritime routes.
