ASTANA, Kazakhstan, February 20. China Eastern Airlines will launch a direct flight from Almaty to Shanghai, as mentioned during a meeting between Almaty Mayor Erbolat Dossaev and Chairman of China Eastern Airlines Co., Ltd., Wang Zhixin, Trend reports.
The parties signed a Memorandum of Cooperation to support the opening of the direct flight between Almaty and Shanghai.
"Active work is underway on this issue to obtain the necessary approvals from the Civil Aviation Administration of China. During the meeting, the Mayor of Almaty also noted the strengthening of partner relations between the sister cities of Almaty and Shanghai. Since 2024, the cities have been actively developing cooperation in various areas, and the declaration of 2025 as the Year of Tourism for China in Kazakhstan opens additional opportunities for joint initiatives and the promotion of tourism potential," the city administration explained.
China Eastern Airlines Co. Ltd. is a state-owned Chinese airline headquartered in Shanghai. It is among the top three largest Chinese carriers and is a member of the global aviation alliance SkyTeam. The airline's fleet consists of around 780 aircraft, and its route network covers more than 1,150 destinations in 175 countries.
