ASTANA, Kazakhstan, April 14. The Kazakhtelecom Group of Companies continues its active infrastructure development, focusing on large-scale projects to be implemented in 2025, Trend reports via the Kazakhtelecom's consolidated financial report for 2024.
One of the most ambitious projects is the construction of an underwater fiber-optic communication line across the Caspian Sea, connecting Kazakhstan with Azerbaijan. This project is part of the strategy to expand international telecommunications corridors and improve communication quality in Central Asia.
The company is also continuing the modernization of its network and the deployment of 5G across Kazakhstan.
"As part of its licensing obligations to build 5G base stations, 2,980 base stations were installed, which is 630 more than the contract stipulated. In 2025, Kazakhtelecom plans to continue expanding the next-generation network coverage, which will improve mobile communication and internet services for millions of users across the country," the report says.
Moreover, the company is actively investing in the modernization of its fixed-line network and the deployment of fiber-optic lines, which is particularly important for improving access to high-speed internet in cities and remote settlements.
"As part of the 'Tazartu' project, more than 70,000 subscribers were switched from copper lines to modern optical networks, and 75,000 clients will receive new high-capacity routers," the company added.
According to the company, a key step in ensuring high-quality internet in remote areas will be cooperation with low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite systems. These technologies will enable stable communication and internet access for rural residents and remote settlements where traditional network connection methods are limited.
Kazakhtelecom's total investment in telecommunications and IT infrastructure in 2024 amounted to 215 billion tenge (approximately $408.5 million), and the company does not plan to reduce its pace in 2025, continuing to improve communication quality and implement innovations for its users.
