ASTANA, Kazakhstan, May 21. KMG Engineering (a subsidiary of KazMunayGas) held its third annual hydrogen energy seminar, Trend reports via KazMunayGas.
According to the information, the program covered the entire hydrogen value chain—from production technologies to application, storage, transportation, and regulatory and market frameworks. Participants discussed various hydrogen production methods: “green” (from renewable energy sources), “blue” (with carbon capture), and “white” (from geological sources).
“A digital Hydrogen Atlas of Kazakhstan was also presented, developed by KazMunayGas together with KMG Engineering (KMGE) as part of the Low-Carbon Development Program. The Atlas allows for the analysis of various scenarios and opportunities for hydrogen production in the country with minimal environmental impact,” reads KazMunayGas in a statement.
In addition, the seminar addressed the prospects for hydrogen use in industry, including metallurgy, as well as issues related to transportation and storage. Special attention was given to domestic developments, including scientific projects from KMGE's laboratory.
Moreover, a dedicated session focused on legislative and market aspects, including regulatory issues, international standards, and pricing—all critical for attracting investment and entering export markets.
This year, the event was executed in a broadened paradigm for the inaugural occasion, incorporating stakeholders from governmental entities, research institutions, global organizations, and industrial corporations.
Specialists hailing from Kazakhstan, Norway, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, India, and Japan convened at the seminar, accompanied by delegates from industry leaders including Casale, Linde, Rystad Energy, Carbon Limits, among others.
Since 2022, KMGE has been at the forefront of pioneering a specialized laboratory dedicated to the exploration and advancement of innovative methodologies for the secure storage and transportation of hydrogen, focusing on both developmental and industrial applications.
