ASTANA, Kazakhstan, June 9. Kazakhstan is planning to supply uranium to Bulgaria for use in nuclear power plants, said Nurlan Zhakupov, Chairman of the Management Board of the state fund "Samruk-Kazyna”, Trend reports.
According to Zhakupov, Bulgaria has nuclear power plants consisting of three units.
“If I’m not mistaken, each unit has a capacity of 1.2 megawatts. And the potential area for cooperation lies in the supply of our uranium to the Bulgarian nuclear power plant,” he stated.
In his speech, Zhakupov did not disclose any details regarding the potential volume of uranium supplies.
Meanwhile, it was previously reported that on June 8–9, 2025, Bulgarian President Rumen Radev will pay an official visit to Kazakhstan at the invitation of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
In 2024, mutual trade between the two countries nearly quadrupled to $375.2 million, while Bulgarian investments in Kazakhstan rose by 86.5 percent to $7.8 million.
