ASTANA, Kazakhstan, July 31. Kazakhstan intends to increase the volume of oil transported through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline to 1.7 million tons this year, Trend reports via the Kazakh Government.
This was announced by Kazakhstan’s Energy Minister Yerlan Akkenzhenov during a press conference focused on the implementation of the President's instructions in the energy sector.
According to the minister, Kazakhstan transported approximately 1.4 million tons of oil via the BTC route in 2024. "In 2025, we plan to raise this figure to about 1.7 million tons. Over the first six months alone, about 800,000 tons were shipped along this corridor," Akkenzhenov said.
He emphasized that the BTC route remains one of Kazakhstan’s key alternative export directions, and work on expanding its use continues.
The pipeline currently transports primarily oil from the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG) field block and condensate from Shah Deniz. In addition, it continues to receive volumes of oil and condensate from other Caspian regions — including Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, as well as additional volumes produced by SOCAR in Azerbaijan.
Shareholders of BTC Co. are: bp (30.10 percent), SOCAR (32.97 percent), MOL (8.90 percent), TPAO (6.53 percent), Eni (5.00 percent), TotalEnergies (5.00 percent), ITOCHU (3.40 percent), ONGC Videsh (3.10 percent), ExxonMobil (2.50 percent), and INPEX (2.50 percent).
