BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 23. Iran plans to invest 22.5 trillion rials (about $38.7 million) in the construction of new solar power stations (SPP) with a combined capacity of 75 megawatts, the country’s Energy Minister Abbas Aliabadi stated, Trend reports.
Speaking at a ceremony marking the commissioning of several SPPs across the country, Aliabadi noted that the projects have begun in three provinces, Sistan and Baluchestan, Yazd, and Razavi Khorasan, as part of efforts to address electricity shortages and improve citizens’ well-being.
Aliabadi highlighted that the commissioning of supplementary
solar installations with a cumulative capacity of 205 megawatts has
augmented Iran’s renewable energy generation capability to exceed
2,300 megawatts. He articulated that the recently commissioned
solar facilities necessitated a capital infusion of 61.5 trillion
rials (approximately $106 million).
Before these advancements, Iran's capacity for renewable energy
generation was quantified at 1,800 megawatts. During the initial
quadrimester of the ongoing Iranian fiscal year (spanning from
March 21 through July 22, 2025), photovoltaic installations
generated an impressive 610 million kilowatt-hours of electrical
output.
