Iran plans to bring the harvest of citrus fruits in Gilan province, which is located in the country's north, to 155,000 tons by the end of the current Iranian year (started March 21, 2018), an official with Gilan Agricultural Jihad Organization Manuchehr Parsafar said, Trend reports via ISNA.
So far, fruits have been harvested from 90 percent of the province's orchards, he said.
In the last Iranian year (March 21, 2017 - March 20, 2018), 143,000 tons of citrus fruits were harvested from orchards of Gilan, according to Parsafar.
This year, 175,000 tons of kiwi fruit are planned to be harvested in the province, he added.
Certain measures are being taken by farmers to increase kiwi fruit output of the province in the upcoming Iranian year, Parsafar said.
A good amount of kiwi fruits grown in Gilan are exported to Caspian countries, he noted.
According to forecasts for the current Iranian year, Gilan's exports of kiwi fruits are expected to reach 60,000 tons. Moreover, the farmers of the province are expected to earn 3.85 trillion rials (roughly $91.6 million) from kiwi fruit sales.
