The value of Iran's exports via Astara customs of its Gilan province in the current Iranian year (began on March 21, 2019), so far, amounted to $276 million, Director General of Astara Customs Administration Rasul Umidi told reporters, Trend reports via IRNA.
The total weight of the exported goods was 535,000 tons, Umidi said.
The director noted that 232,000 tons of goods worth $188 million were imported via Astara customs during the reported period.
The launch of the eTIR project has facilitated the movement of vehicles between Iran and its neighboring countries, as well as increased trade turnover between them, the customs official said.
Special attention is also paid to increasing the Iran-Azerbaijan trade turnover and facilitating the movement of vehicles between the two countries.
Rasul Umidi noted that Astara customs has a territory of 27 hectares and a project is being implemented on its development.
So far, 225 billion rials (over $5.3 million) have been allocated for the project and its completed by 20 percent, the director said.
Th customs official added that attempts of exporting 22 tons of essentials goods via Astara customs have been been prevented in the current Iranian year, so far.
Astara county of Iran's Gilan province is bordering the Republic of Azerbaijan. The customs of this county is the third most crowded in all Iran. Around 800,000 Iranians and foreigners go through Astara customs annually.
After the US imposed sanctions on Iran in 2018, Iran banned exports of certain essential goods.
