The Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline transported around 1.8 million tonnes of Turkmen oil in January-April, 2014, compared to one million tonnes in the same period of 2013, according to a report of the Azerbaijani State Statistical Committee.
The BTC, which exports most of the oil produced in Azerbaijan, transported some 3.3 million tonnes of Turkmen oil in 2013, versus 3.1 million tonnes in 2012.
Turkmen oil is transported via the BTC under a contract between SOCAR Trading and Dragon oil, producing oil in Turkmenistan.
Transportation of Turkmen oil via the BTC began in July 2010.
SOCAR Trading buys and transports oil from producers in Turkmenistan across the Caspian Sea to the BTC entrance flange at the Sangachal Terminal in Baku. The BTC Co. then transports the oil via BTC to SOCAR Trading at the Mediterranean port of Ceyhan, in Turkey.
BTC Co. shareholders are: BP (30.1 percent), AzBTC (25 percent), Chevron (8.9 percent), Statoil (8.71 percent), ТРАО (6.53 percent), Eni (five percent), Total (5 percent), Itochu (3.4 percent), Inpex (2.5 percent), ConocoPhillips (2.5 percent) and ONGC (2.36 percent).
BTC's pumping capacity is 1.2 million barrels of oil per day.
