The unified electric power system of Kazakhstan experiences shortage of electricity during peak hours, the country’s Energy Minister Bolat Akchulakov said during a briefing at the Central Communications Service, Trend reports via the ministry.
According to Akchulakov, based on the statistical analysis, until 2021, the consumption of electricity in the country grew by an average of two percent per year, and last year, this figure rose by over 6.1 percent compared to 2020.
At the same time, in the southern zone of the unified electric power system, this figure was 12 percent.
At present, the system operates in a self-balanced manner. The shortage of electric power during peak hours is due to more frequent emergency shutdowns of equipment of energy-producing organizations, as well as a sharp increase in connected power.
The main reason for the growth in demand is digital mining.
In order to prevent serious consequences associated with restrictions among the population, the system operator is daily taking all necessary measures. The Ministry of Energy introduced amendments to some regulatory legal acts in the field of electric power industry.
