BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 28. The STAR Oil Refinery, owned by the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) and located in Türkiye, produced 133,963 tons of naphtha in June 2025.
Data obtained by Trend from the Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK) of Türkiye indicates that this marks a sharp rise from 88,792 tons in June 2024, representing an annual increase of 45,171 tons, or 50.9 percent.
Naphtha, a volatile hydrocarbon fraction derived from crude oil, serves as a precursor in the synthesis of gasoline and kerosene, achieved via the fractional distillation process of crude oil feedstock.
Initiated in October 2018, STAR Refinery represents Türkiye's most substantial real-sector capital infusion, synergistically amalgamating oil refining processes with the petrochemical sector. By the end of 2024, the refinery’s annual crude processing capacity reached 13 million tons. STAR produces a range of oil products, including diesel, naphtha, and aviation fuel, meeting nearly 18 percent of Türkiye's processed oil product demand in 2023, while its annual naphtha output almost fully satisfies the raw material needs of the Petkim petrochemical complex.
