Baku, Azerbaijan, July 11
By Fikret Dolukhanov – Trend:
A “road map” on introduction and development of digital economy of Uzbekistan, as well as on licensing of activities in the sphere of the crypto-assets turnover, will be completed by the end of July 2018, a source at the Uzbek Mirzo Ulugbek Innovation Center (MUIC) told Trend on July 11.
The representative of the MUIC noted that details of the activities carried out so far will be available after completion of the work on development of the “road map”.
“The center is going through a transition period. The decision of the president of Uzbekistan has directly affected MUIC. The National Project Management Agency (NPMA) under the president of the republic, which is the authorized body in introduction and development of the digital economy, as well as in licensing activities in the sphere of the crypto-assets turnover, has become our co-owner,” the source said.
President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree on measures to develop the digital economy on July 3.
The decree defines the most important tasks for development of the digital economy, such as introduction and development of activities in the sphere of the crypto-assets turnover, including mining, smart contracts, consulting, emission, exchange, storage, distribution, management, insurance, crowd-funding, and blockchain technologies for diversification of investment and entrepreneurial activity.
Blockchain technology is expected to be used in clearing operations during payments, trade financing, and issuing loans for projects.
According to the presidential decree, the NPMA under the president of Uzbekistan will receive a share in the statutory fund of the MUIC.
Since Oct. 1, activities in the sphere of the crypto-assets turnover, including creation of crypto-exchanges, will be subject to licensing.
The draft law “On Digital Economy and Blockchain Technologies”, which provides for the basic concepts and principles in this sphere, should be developed until Jan. 1, 2019.
