BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, December 15. Kyrgyzstan's leadership plans to significantly reduce the country's external debt by 2030, the country's President Sadyr Zhaparov said, Trend reports.
He made these statements during the second People's Kurultai, a grand national assembly that includes citizens, local communities, self-government bodies, and state authorities.
The head of state highlighted that in 2023, $344 million would be paid off, followed by $400 million in 2024, and $430 million in 2025.
"Our state treasury has seen an increase in monetary resources. These results have been achieved primarily due to the correct, transparent implementation of our economic policy. We have external debt obligations. These years mark the time when we approach the moment of repaying the largest sum of debts," Zhaparov said.
According to the country's Ministry of Finance, as of the end of September 2023, Kyrgyzstan's total government debt (external and internal) amounted to $5.987 billion, with $4.486 billion being external debt and $1.500 billion being internal debt.
The second People's Kurultai, attended by President Sadyr Zhaparov, Speaker of the Parliament Nurlanbek Shakiev, Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Akylbek Japarov, cabinet members, government and municipal officials, and the public sector, is underway in Kyrgyzstan's Bishkek.
